BIOGRAPHY
Safia was born in
Khartoum (Sudan) on 15 April 1982. She spent some of her childhood
in Saudi Arabia before moving to Niamey (Niger) with her family.
In 2002 whilst she was completing her studies in Morocco she
became involved in a professional Moroccan music group and she
stayed with them until 2004. It was during this time that she learnt
to master the guitar. She also spent a year with the Polyphonic
Choir in Rabat.
Safia has been a member of Kaidan Gaskia
since 2006; a group which reformed around Pheno B following the
departure of its former members to the States. She continues to
pursue her solo career thanks to the support of the KOUNTCHE
Production studio in Niamey.
Kaidan Gaskia is Niger's
unstoppable rap band. The name 'Kaidan Gaskia' means: "To act with
honesty", in other words - "to respect the truth". |
