Cheikh Sène alias Keyti was
one of the first hardcore rappers in Senegal. He was a founding
member of the famous group RAP'ADIO. Rap'Adio recorded their first
album "Ku Weet Xam Sa Bopp" in 1998.
In 2001 they brought out
"Soldaaru Mbed" (Street soldiers) which denounced the problems of
Senegalese society using a hardhitting moralising tone.
Rap'Adio could not survive the strong personalities and
beliefs of its members and in 2003 Keyti brought out his first solo
album: "Jog ak Daanu" (Highs and Lows).
In this 8 track album Keyti takes a less
stringently moralising tone but nonetheless he continues to
criticise the difficulties that youth face, political power and
money. Ibou N'Dour (Youssou N'Dour's brother) and the keyboard
player from Viviane N'Dour's group contributed to the
album. |
